The Batch Photo Upload Utility

The Batch Photo Upload Utility provides you with the means to upload a large batch of photos to Paragon without having to manually assign them to a listing one photo at a time.

When you first enter load the Batch Photo Upload utility, you will need to set it up with the correct configuration settings in order for uploads to work.  The Setup screen can be reached by clicking on the Setup button or the Setup Summary hyperlink in the main area of the window.

Setup

Source Directory of Photos– In this section you can type in the path to the folder on your PC where you will store the photos you want to upload to Paragon, or you can click the Browse button and browse for the folder.  For example, if your photos will be stored in a folder called Photos on the C: drive, you would type in C:\Photos.  Checking the Recursive Directories box will cause the utility to look for photos in any folders under the folder you entered in the space above.

Target Board ID Code– In this section you setup information relating to the Board you will be uploading photos to.  In the first field you would enter the MLSID for your MLS.  This can be found in Paragon next to your download link for this software or by contacting your MLS office.

Valid File Names for this Target – This section determines what files names the utility will consider valid for the MLS you have entered in the Target Board ID Code section.  The Batch Photo Upload utility will only consider photos named in one of the selected formats as valid to upload to that MLS.  The four valid filename formats are:

  • [MLS No.][Optional Sequence Letter].[jpg] – Selecting this name format would have the utility consider photos with a file name made up of the MLS number and the optional sequence letter (which determines where it falls in the sequence of additional photos; A being the first additional photo; primary pictures have no sequence letter) as valid photos for uploading to the MLS.  Examples would be 555555.jpg or 555555a.jpg.

  • [Board Name][MLS No.][Optional Sequence Letter].[jpg] – Selecting this name format would have the utility consider photos with a name containing the MLSID, MLS number, and optional sequence letter (in that order) as valid photos for uploading to the MLS.  Examples would be MLS555555.jpg or MLS555555a.jpg, where MLS would be the MLSID.  If you select this option, the utility will ask you to enter the MLSID you wish to use.

  • [Board Name][MLS No.][Place Holder][Optional Sequence Letter].[jpg] – Selecting this name format would have the utility consider photos with a name containing the MLSID, MLS number, a place holder, and optional sequence letter (in that order) as valid photos for uploading to the MLS.  The place holder could be any combination of characters allowed by Windows in a file name.  Examples would be MLS555555primary.jpg or MLS555555seconda.jpg, where MLS would be the MLSID and primary and second would be examples of place holders.  If you select this option, the utility will ask you for the MLSID and place holder you wish to use.  You may add this option more than once if you have multiple place holders you wish to support.

  • [MLS No.][Place Holder][Optional Sequence Letter].[jpg] – Selecting this name format would have the utility consider photos with a file name made up of the MLS number, place holder, and the optional sequence letter as valid photos for uploading.  The place holder could be any combination of characters allowed by Windows in a file name.  Examples would be 555555primary.jpg or 555555seconda.jpg, where MLS primary and second would be examples of place holders.  If you select this option, the utility will ask you for the place holder you wish to use.  You may add this option more than once if you have multiple place holders you wish to support.

The default format is [MLS No.][Optional Sequence Letter].[jpg].  Clicking the Add button will open a new window listing all the available formats.

Selecting a format and clicking the OK button will add that name format to the list of formats the utility will use.

The Options section contains two options which can be turned On or Off by checking or un-checking the corresponding box.

Delete Images After Upload– Checking this box will result in photos which were successfully uploaded being deleted from your hard drive.

Over-Write Images On Server– If a listing you are trying to upload a photo for has an existing photo, checking this box will result in the existing photo being replaced by the photo you are uploading.

To complete the final portion of setup, click on the Connection tab at the top of the setup window.  In the RETS Host field field, enter HTTP:// followed by the MLS ID (or "CName") used by your MLS. (Example: htts://imls-rets.paragonrels.com) This can be found in Paragon next to your download link for this software or by contacting your MLS office.

An example of the correct format can be seen in the above photo.  If you later return to the screen, you will notice that some additional information has been added to what you typed in.  This is perfectly fine and has been done to save you from having to type it all in.

After you are done, click the OK button to save your work.

Watermarks

The new Watermark tab will allow the MLS Admin/User to upload the appropriate watermark with each listing photo.

Note that the watermark is not checked automatically for proper sizing so it's advised that you test your stored copy of your watermark before running a full Batch upload.

If the MLS is utlizing the Board and Office Watermarks the Batch Photo upload will not seperate these out in the upload process. The MLS/Agents will need to use the standard Listing Image load for this funcitonalty.

Previewing Photos Before Uploading

Clicking on the Preview button will switch to the Preview view.  Here you can view individual photos before uploading them to Paragon.

The Arrow buttons allow you to navigate through the photos.  The << and>> buttons will take you to the first and last photos respectively.  The < and > buttons allow you to move through the photos one at a time.  The Add button allows you to upload the current photo by itself should you have the need to add an individual photo instead of performing the batch upload.  Also displayed are the name of the photo, the MLS number this photo will be associated with and size of the photo (in pixels).

If you switch to a photo with a file name which does not match one of the valid formats, a message will be displayed above the photo informing you it is not valid and the Add button will be disabled.

Performing A Photo Upload

Clicking the Add button from the row of buttons along the top of the utility will switch you to the Upload screen.  (Clicking the Add from the Preview screen will take you to a similar screen but only the currently displayed photo will uploaded).

The Upload screen displays information regarding the photos you are about to upload.  The information provided included the name of the folder the photos are coming from on your hard drive, the total number of photos in that folder, the total number of photos in the folder which will not be uploaded, and the names of the photos which will not upload.

Clicking the Yes button will start the batch photo upload.  You will prompted for your username and password.  After entering that information, clicking the OK to continue to the upload process.  This will launch a different view showing the progress of the upload.  After the upload completes, you may click the View Log button to view a log of the upload.

Viewing The Upload Log

The View Log button will display the Upload Log screen.  The screen is split into two sections:  Batches and DetailsBatches displays a list of upload logs available for review.  Selecting one of these rows will display the detailed results of that upload in the Details section.  The Details section includes an Errors column which will provide you with any errors which occurred during that upload.  Both lists function just like a spreadsheet.  Clicking on any column name will sort the information in that list by that column.
